the dock is an easy way to access the apps and utilities available on your mac itamp;#39;s dynamic and interactive so if an app wants to grab your attention it will bounce to attract your eye this works fine for some apps but you donamp;#39;t want every app to keep on bouncing and distract you from what youamp;#39;re doing fortunately you can stop doc icons from bouncing on your mac one of the easiest ways to save yourself from the constant distraction of the bouncing dock icons is to disable the icon balance option in the system preferences pane on your mac once disabled your icons will no longer animate click on the apple logo at the top left corner of your screen and select the option that says system preferences when the preferences pane opens look for the option that says dock and click on it to open it it will open your docs settings menu on the following screen youamp;#39;ll find several options that you customize the behavior of your dock you need to find the option that sa

The dots under applications on your Macs Dock mean that the apps are still running, even if you cant see any of the windows open on your desktop. This is similar to having apps open in the background on an iPhone. On your iPhone, these apps need to be closed manually, and on your Mac, you have to do the same thing.
Why is there a black dot under Finder on the Mac? As we have seen, Finder on the Mac is always open, as it is part of the operating system. On the Mac, available Apps are marked with a black dot below them. Thats why Finder on the Mac always has a black dot under it.
Only one privacy indicator dot is shown at a time. For example, if both the microphone and a camera are in use, you only see a green dot. When you open Control Center, the top of the window may contain a field that shows which apps are using your microphone, location, camera, or system audio.
Remove an item from the Dock: Drag the item out of the Dock until Remove is shown. Only the alias is removed; the actual item remains on your Mac. If you accidentally remove an app icon from the Dock, its easy to put it back (the app is still on your Mac). Open the app to make its icon appear again in the Dock.
Keep in mind that if you click the Close button in the top-left corner of an apps window, the window closes, but the app remains open (a small dot below the apps icon in the Dock indicates that the apps open).
After youve rebooted in Recovery Mode and entered the system-override suppress-sw-camera-indication-on-external-displays=on command in the Terminal, the new option available in System Settings under Privacy Security for the microphone / camera will allow you to turn the privacy dot on and off for external displays
And thats why the Dock combines the launcher and status functions of a modern operating system. Only a tiny black dot beneath a programs icon tells you that its openand you can even hide that, if you want. (Choose System PreferencesDock, and turn off Show indicators for open applications.)
