You must check the temperature of the specimen no later than four minutes after the employee has given you the specimen. The acceptable temperature range is 3238 C/90100 F. You must determine the temperature of the specimen by reading the temperature strip attached to the collection container.
A chain of custody form, or CCF, is a document used to keep track of a specimen in the drug testing process. It tracks the specimen from the moment the donor provides the specimen to the collector until the reporting of the specimen analysis from the MRO to the DER.
Open the sealed collection cup in the employees presence. Check the specimen for sufficient volume (45 mL), temperature (F 90-100), and signs of unusual color, odor, or other signs of adulteration. Always collect a split specimen.

(c) As a participant in the DOT drug testing program, you are not permitted to modify or revise the CCF except as follows: (1) You may include, in the area outside the border of the form, other information needed for billing or other purposes necessary to the collection process.
