The HTML server controls are HTML elements that include a runat=server attribute. The HTML server controls have the same HTML output and the same properties as their corresponding HTML tags. In addition, HTML server controls provide automatic state management and server-side events.
The runat=server attribute is used in ASP.NET web forms to indicate that a control should be treated as a server-side control, meaning that it can be manipulated by server-side code (such as C# or VB.NET) and can participate in server-side events and view state management.
All server controls must appear within a tag, and the tag must contain the runat=server attribute. The runat=server attribute indicates that the form should be processed on the server.
The RUNAT=SERVER attribute tells the Web server to process the script on the server. If you do not set this attribute, the script is processed by the client browser. The LANGUAGE attribute determines the scripting language used for this script block.
Using the shortcut: Ctrl+K Ctrl+C to comment out a line of html code in Contact. aspx, the contents of a related stlye sheet changes even though it is checked in! Im attaching an example of the css file before commenting out the code in Contact.
The runat=server tag in ASP.NET allows the ability to convert/treat most any HTML element as a server-side control that you can manipulate via code at generation time.
ASPX files usually will have the UI and will which is usually HTML tags, some ASP.NET server control embed code (which ultimately produce some HTML markups). ASPX. CS file (usually called code-behind) will have server-side coding in C#. If needed, I would relate ASPX page to View and ASPX.
ASP.NET web forms are based on the event-driven model for interactions with the web application. The browser, being an end user, submits a web form to the server and the server returns a full markup page or HTML page in response. ASP.NET component model offers object model for ASPX pages.
