so the power lifting competition is in three days and I am just barely making weight Im nervous that my scale is not actually calibrated so when I get there my weight is going to be off oh I think that thats the most nerve-wracking part so what Ive been doing for the last couple days is Ive been doing a water cut and thats just drinking more water so that your body can get rid of kind of the excess water that its holding on to my sister actually came to visit um well not visit my sister actually came to see me in competition so shes like my unofficial coach and so were going to go to Target today and then shes going to help me practice the commands in powerlifting because I actually never practice those before I just work out by myself yeah pretty sad my hair is really long oh I did say that if I dont make weight Im willing to cut my hair like its pretty long right now I dont know if you can see I probably cut it like up to here if I needed to Im gonna bring in [Applause]

Basically it is getting rid of all the poop that is in your intestines. Gut weight does not have any effect on strength, so if we can limit the amount of built up food in your intestines, then we can achieve a fairly high amount of weight loss (2-3% of body weight) with no impact on your performance.
Many powerlifters choose to cut weight before a meet in order to qualify for a lower weight class and potentially have an advantage over their competitors. However, cutting weight can also have negative effects on performance if not done safely.
Did you know powerlifting has weight classes? And most of them benefit a lean (not cut) body composition. Being cut is bad for strength gains, but at around 1214% body fat you can look pretty damn good if you have muscles. Think more like a four-pack physique.
Cut less than 5% of your target weight. For instance, if youre a man who wants to compete in the 164183 lb (7483 kg) weight class, youd calculate that 5% of 183 lb (83 kg) is about 9 lb (4.1 kg). In that case, you need to weigh 192 lb (87 kg) or less to cut weight safely.
Cutting is a fat-loss phase that bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts use to get as lean as possible. Typically started a few months before a major workout plan, it involves a weight loss diet thats meant to maintain as much muscle as possible.
If competition day is Day-0, then 1 and 2 days out were going to drink 100% of peak water; 3 and 4 days out were going to drink 80% of peak water; and 5 and 6 days out were going to drink 60% of peak water. On the last day (1 day out), cut all fluid intake 16 hours before weigh in.
If you dont make it, you have to move up. Update: At CPU nationals, or any international meet, like an IPF worlds, you can only lift in the age and weight class that you entered, though you can change it up to 21 days before the first day of the event.
However, in general, it is not recommended to lose too much weight before powerlifting competitions as it can negatively affect your performance and strength. Losing a docHub amount of weight quickly can also be dangerous and potentially harmful to your health.
