hi its steph welcome back to my channel where i give you quick tips and tricks on how to navigate excel today were going to talk about how to truncate some data how to trim it up so that you may get rid of some extra characters that you dont want to see in your final report so here i have some data that is internal we keep track of our market numbers hill valley is one toontown is o3 most obviously is o2 but if i want to send this out in some sort of report i dont want it to show the o10203 i just want to see the market name so how can we do that we do that with a trim function you can trim from the right trim from the left trim from the middle were going to in this case we only want to return the values that are starting from the right so our formula is is equals right open parenthesis and choose the subject that were looking at comma and then it wants to know how many characters from the right do you want to see so looking at this im going to guess 10 and you can see we neede

The RIGHT and LEN Functions to Erase Characters from Left As a rule, the RIGHT and LEN functions remove characters from the left. In this case, the RIGHT function gives us the characters from the right. So, it will delete characters from the left.

Trim Spaces for Excel - remove extra spaces in a click Select the cell(s) where you want to delete spaces. Click the Trim Spaces button on the ribbon. Choose one or all of the following options: Trim leading and trailing spaces. Trim extra spaces between words, except for a single space. Click Trim.
Another way you can remove the first four characters of a text string is by using the Excel REPLACE function. The formula in cell B2 is =REPLACE(A2,1,4,).
