This procedure uses a laser or scalpel to remove a large cone-shaped piece of tissue from the cervix. Endocervical curettage (ECC). This procedure uses a narrow instrument called a curette to scrape the lining of the endocervical canal.
An area of abnormal cells that forms on the surface of certain organs, such as the cervix, vagina, vulva, anus, and esophagus. Low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions look slightly abnormal when looked at under a microscope.
If your doctor determines that you have a high grade cervical lesion, he or she may advise you to have the lesion removed. The two most common methods of removing cervical lesions are by procedures called a LEEP or Cold Knife Cone. Both procedures are quick and typically have a quick recovery time.
An endocervical curettage is another biopsy procedure used after you receive the results of an abnormal Pap exam. While receiving news of a questionable Pap test can cause anxiety, be aware that many conditions are treatable, including cervical cancer, when you receive an early diagnosis and receive prompt treatment.
Cervical endometriosis does not always cause symptoms. Early signs can include any general endometriosis symptoms, such as abdominal pain, pain during urination or bowel movements, pain during intercourse, excessive pain or bleeding during menstruation, or infertility.
A procedure done after an abnormal Pap test result in which a sample of tissue is scraped from the lining of the cervical canal (the inner part of the cervix that connects the uterus to the vagina) using a spoon-shaped instrument called a curette. The tissue is then checked under a microscope for signs of disease.
A large number of patients with abnormal cervical cytology undergo subsequent colposcopy-directed punch biopsy (punch biopsy) and endocervical curettage (ECC). These procedures are painful, which may cause uncomfortable after effects and evoke fear of follow-up care if not adequately managed.
Pregnancy is a common cause. Polyps or fibroids (small and large growths) in the uterus can also cause bleeding. Rarely, a thyroid problem, infection of the cervix, or cancer of the uterus can cause abnormal uterine bleeding. In most women, abnormal uterine bleeding is caused by a hormone imbalance.
Bleeding or spotting after a Pap smear isnt unusual, even for people without infections, cancer, or other conditions. The delicate tissues of your cervix can bleed after a brush or swab scratches the surface.
The procedure might be done in either an outpatient surgical center or a hospital, and you should think about having a ride home lined up afterward due to the anesthesia. Typically, you wont need to stay in the hospital after having your endocervical curettage.
