Editing images is one of the most common tasks people perform on computers. But if youre not doing it as a professional you probably dont want to fork over all the money for PhotoShop. There are some alternatives. For simple things you can do them in Preview. But there are some great apps in the Mac App Store for photo editing. One of them is Acorn and this is the one that I use a lot. So you can get it for only $30 in the Mac App Store. So heres a fairly typical task you may want to do inside of an image editing app. Ive got one photo here with me in it. Another with just a background. Im going to cut myself out of this one and put myself in this one. One of the ways that you can do this in Acorn is use the selection tool here. You can use one of these shape selection tools and draw carefully around the shape. But Im going to try and use this one to select an area. When the ink color and tone of the autograph exactly matches either the color and tone of the printed text (or at least some of it), and/or the image on the same page, that is a sign that they were all printed together. In that case, you are most likely seeing a printed autograph and not a real hand-signed one.

The most important factor in valuing a signature is the person who made the autograph the more iconic the individual, the more the autograph can be worth. One of the most valuable autographs, for example, is on George Washingtons copy of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, which sold in 2012 for $9.8 million.
So its not surprising many of the cut autograph cards feature those who come from the past, ranging from older athletes (ie. Jackie Robinson) to past U.S. presidents. As there are only a limited number of signed documents available, many of these cut autograph cards are fairly valuable.

An autograph is a persons own handwriting or signature. The word autograph comes from Ancient Greek (ὐό, auts, self and ά, grphō, write), and can mean more specifically: a manuscript written by the author of its content. In this meaning the term autograph can often be used interchangeably with holograph.
The definition of an autograph is the signature of a person written with his own hand, especially one written by someone well-known. When an author signs her name in a book, then that is an example of an autograph.
