Create a File with Touch Command The easiest way to create a new file in Linux is by using the touch command. The ls command lists the contents of the current directory. Since no other directory was specified, the touch command created the file in the current directory.
Creating a Plain-Text File Notepad or Notepad++ in Windows. These programs should save plain text files by default. WordPad in Windows. Use File Save As and select the option that allows you to save the file as a Text Document rather than Rich Text Format (RTF), which is the default. TextEdit on the Mac.

These options typically follow the script name or command name and are denoted by a hyphen followed by a single character. For example, in the ls -l command, -l signifies the list option. Additionally, in verbose mode, options can be specified after a double hyphen using their full names, such as ls --list .
