When a mandatory field is available in the form, it means user should fill that field without fail. Leaving the mandatory fields will cause in non submission of the form.

You can make a field mandatory while creating or editing any entitys field under Admin Settings. Making a field required, mandates the user to enter a value while saving a record. This feature is available for Lead, Contact, Account and Deal fields.
Next chosse either General data/Company data/sales data, where you need to make the changes. Example: say for address, choose general data dobule click on that, next double click on address, finally select the fields you want to make mandatory, display only, hidden, etc.
