If you try to create a formula that references more than 15 objects, youll likely receive an error message titled You have docHubed the maximum number of 15 object references on [Object name]. You must remove at least 1 relationship(s) in order to save this [Workflow Rule/formula field/..].
As with any other custom Salesforce field, formula fields are created by following just a handful of steps: Access the Object Manager from Setup navigate to the object you wish to create the Formula Field on. Click New in the Field and Relationship section of the Object you decide on. Select Formula as the field type.
What is the capability of formula fields in Salesforce? The capability of a formula field in Salesforce is extensive, allowing for real-time, dynamic calculations within records. A formula field can automatically calculate values using data from other fields within the same record or related records.
Each can have up to 3900 characters. The more complex case is when a formula field that refers to other formula fields (that may in turn refer to even more formula fields) results in compounded code that exceeds the 5000 bytes limit.
That limit is 15 (can be increased to 20 if you open a case with Salesforce), and those are shared across formula fields, validation rules, and perhaps a few other things.
