Changing default font typeface The font can also be changed for a specific element in the document. The command \fontfamily{qcr}\selectfont will set the TeX gyre cursor font typeface, whose fontcode is qcr , for the text inside the braces. A lot more LaTeX font typefaces are available, see the reference guide.
By default, in standard LaTeX classes the default style for text is usually a Roman (upright) serif font. To use other styles (families) such as sans serif, typewriter (monospace) etc. you need to use some specific LaTeX commands, as shown in the example below: In this example, a command and a switch are used.
By default, LaTeX uses Modern, a serif font. Instead of this, use the sans-serif variant. To make this change, add this command to the preamble: \renewcommand{\familydefault}{\sfdefault}
To change the font family in a LaTeX document, we can use the \usepackage command. In addition, we should know that there are several other font packages available for LaTeX we can use, such as Arial, Helvetica, and Palatino.
We can change the font style in a LaTeX document using one or a combination of the ones below: \textbf{bold text} \textit{italic text} \texttt{typewriter text} \underline{underlined text}
To shift to another font family on a temporary basis, use the commands \fontencoding (if needed), \fontfamily , and \selectfont , and enclose the commands and the text in curly braces.
By default, LaTeX maintains three font families: a serifed text font, accessed with the command \textrm ; a sans serif text font, accessed by \textsf ; and a typewriter (monospaced) font, accessed by \texttt . The declaration forms of these commands are \rmfamily , \sffamily , and \ttfamily , respectively.
