XML Naming Rules Element names must start with a letter or underscore. Element names cannot start with the letters xml (or XML, or Xml, etc) Element names can contain letters, digits, hyphens, underscores, and periods. Element names cannot contain spaces.
An XML document is said to be valid if its contents match with the elements, attributes and associated document type declaration(DTD), and if the document complies with the constraints expressed in it. Validation is dealt in two ways by the XML parser.
XML tags are case sensitive. The tag is different from the tag . Opening and closing tags must be written with the same case: This is correct
XML has three types of tags: opening tags, closing tags, and empty tags. XML tag names are enclosed in angle brackets and are case sensitive. Items in an XML-compliant document or data set are always enclosed in paired opening and closing tags, and the tags must be properly nested.
XML Messaging format is specified for exchanging structured information in the implementation of Web Services in computer networks. An XML interface can form the foundation layer of a web services protocol stack, providing a basic messaging framework upon which web services can be built.
XML Syntax Rules All XML elements must have a closing tag. XML tags are case sensitive. All XML elements must be properly nested. All XML documents must have a root element. Attribute values must always be quoted.
XML Tag names cannot contain any of the characters :! #$%()*+,/;? @[\]^`{|}~, nor a space character, and cannot begin with -, ., or a numeric digit. Only the following characters produce error 13640 when the WRITE-XML and WRITEXML-SCHEMA methods are executed: #$% and the space character since OpenEdge 11.6.
The XML document uses lowercase for element names and attributes. The case option defaults to lowercase so it is not needed. The XML document uses uppercase for element names and attributes. Option case=upper must be specified.
