Be sure that the panels are properly side lapped to ensure a water tight seal. 3: The panels at the eave side of the roof should overhang into the gutters 1 to 1-1/2 inches. If installing metal on a non gutter application you can overhang the panel up to 3 inches.
To seal the seams between adjacent panels, apply the tape to the top shoulder of the panel rib, making sure that the majority of the sealant winds up on the weather side of any sidelap fasteners (see Figure 1). Figure 1. To seal the lap between adjacent panels, apply butyl tape to the weather side of the rib shoulder.
You can build a second roof of wood and raise the tin roof, to keep things economic. It is even better to use, on top of the tin roof, a roof made of clay tiles, with a 20 cm or more gap between both roofs, as clay tiles are (at least where I live) cheaper and do not transmit heat by conduction so much.
In simple terms, adding sealant under the overlaps of the metal roofing will prevent water spreading up between the two sheets. However, it is commonly argued that by using a sealant, you are preventing condensation from the cold metal roof being released, causing inevitable corrosion anyway.
Lap sealant is UV stabilized to prevent deterioration and discoloration. Plus, it will not stain or discolor any roofing material to which it is applied. The lap sealant is available in a HAPS free formula that meets the demanding industry requirements while providing a cleaner and safer work environment.
To seal the lap between adjacent panels, apply butyl tape to the weather side of the rib shoulder. Dont peel away the release paper until youre ready to the overlapping panel. Take care to ensure the exact alignment of the panel before it contacts the sealant.
The amount of overlap required for metal roofing depends on a few factors, such as the type of metal used, the pitch of the roof, and the climate in which the roof is installed. Generally, the minimum overlap required for metal roofing is around 1.5 inches, which can vary based on these factors.
