The easiest way to remove texture from walls is the soak-and-scrape method. Youll need to spray a section of the wall with water and let the water soak in and soften the texture. Then you need to scrape the texture off using a drywall taping knife.
Other options for treating textured walls A skim coat may be an option, as well. Skim coating involves applying a thin layer of mud over the entire wall surface. You can also just replace the drywall altogether. If youre in the mood for something completely different, you can cover the walls with another material.
Skim coating involves applying a thin layer of mud over the entire wall surface. Effectively, this evens out the texture and leaves you with a smoother surface.
The process of smoothing textured walls with skim coating is fairly common. It refers to spreading a layer of joint compound over the walls to fill in the bumps and valleys in the texture, effectively creating a smooth surface.
The best way to cover up old texture on walls is to skim coat the walls. This involves applying a thin layer of joint compound to the walls and then sanding it down until it is completely smooth. This will give you a clean, uniform surface that is easy to paint or wallpaper.
You can paint over the texture using a thick-nap roller or apply wallpaper designed for textured surfaces to give a new look to the walls.
Use earthy tones such as brown, green, blue and yellow to incorporate elements from nature like trees, leaves or flowers and create a modern interior wall texture. You can create a bold, graphic effect using contrasting colours or you can create a subtle look by using similar colours creating a tone-on-tone effect.
We used a spackling paste made for wood or masonry and it worked great. Be sure to purchase a product made for the type of surface you are using it on. There are different formulas for wood, cement, concrete and drywall.
