You may take the bandages off two to four days after surgery. If steri-strips were applied to the incisions, do not remove, let them fall off on their own. Remaining steri-strips may be removed after day 10 following your surgery.
While you can remove the white fluffy dressing the day after surgery, you should use the ace wrap for at least a few days after surgery, or as long as your leg or knee has some swelling. You should stop the Ace wrap about 9-12 days after surgery.
You do not need to wear anything special on the day of your surgery. You will be asked to remove your clothing and change into a gown when you arrive at the surgery center. Bring loose-fitting, comfortable clothing to wear home from your surgery. Bending your leg may be difficult or painful at first.
Wound Care You will go home with a dressing and an elastic bandage around your knee. Do not remove them until the provider says it is OK. Until then, keep the dressing and bandage clean and dry. You can shower again after your dressing is removed.
Surgical. Surgical treatment is recommended for individuals with a grade 3 or complete ACL tear. Surgical options may vary based on the type of ACL injury, whether the patient has open or closed growth plates, and the type.
Damage to any part of your knee can cause excess joint fluid to accumulate. Injuries that can cause fluid buildup in and around the knee joint include: Torn ligament, particularly the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) Cartilage (meniscus) tear. Irritation from overuse.
Bandages Ace Wrap: Your Steri- Strips should be left in place until your sutures are removed 10 to 12 days after surgery. The second layer is a large white fluffy dressing that is loosely wrapped around your knee.
Swelling Rest: During the first 3 days you should rest with your leg elevated as much as possible. Ice: For the first week you should try to ice your knee 3 times a day for 20 minutes. Compression: You will usually have a Tubigrip stocking around your knee. Elevation: Elevating the leg will assist in reducing swelling.
