The element lets you create any sequence of topics, and the ditabase document type lets you nest these topic types inside each other. The element has no particular output implications; it simply allows you to create multiple topics of different types at the same level in a single document.
The language reference portion of the DITA specification contains a topic for each DITA element. The topic defines the element, its inheritance hierarchy, and provides examples of usage. This portion of the DITA specification also includes information about DITA attributes.
Each column within a table definition can have a data element assigned to it. A data element specifies the type of data a column contains, which in turn determines the transforms that can be applied in a Transformer stage.
DITA is built on XML-based mark-up language. It allows for topic-based authoring. It follows structured authoring concepts. It separates content from formatting via the DITA style guide.
A data element (DE) is a logical unit of data, pertaining to information of one kind. It has a name, precise definition, and a set of permissible values (if applicable).
The data element is the primary unit of data in the message. Data elements are separated by the data element separator, which is an asterisk by default for X12 and a plus sign by default for EDIFACT. The optionality of data elements is defined as mandatory, optional, or conditional.
A basic unit of information that has a unique meaning and subcategories (data items) of distinct value. Examples of data elements include gender, race, and geographic location. Sources: The smallest named item of data that conveys meaningful information.
The element represents a property within a DITA topic or map. While the element can be used directly to capture properties, it is particularly useful as a basis for specialization.
