Apply antibiotic creams Apply only a thin layer of the ointment to your scab. OTC ointments or creams containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid contain antibacterial properties that can aid the healing process. They can help exfoliate or remove dead cells as the wound heals, too.
If youve simply given yourself a gnarly scab thats hard to cover because its dark and bumpy, try this: I am a fan of using two concealers for a scab, says Roncal. First apply one that is white or at least super-light to act like Wite-Out. Let that dry, then cover it with a concealer in your skin tone.
Dab liquid concealer over the broken skin to cover the redness. Dip a clean makeup brush into some liquid concealer and gently pat it on top of the broken skin. Focus on the edges and the center of the broken skin to cover up the redness. Use a clean makeup brush to avoid introducing bacteria to your broken skin.
Warm a pigment-packed concealer onto your fingertips and carefully pat onto the spot. Then, with a brush, work around, not on the spot, evening and buffing. This will help to soften the edges so it doesnt look obvious. If you need to touch up your concealer throughout the day, simply repeat the process.
Top the scab with a small amount of thick concealer. A thinner concealer wont hold your makeup in place, so opt for a thick and creamy one. Again, put a small amount on your finger and dab it on top of the foundation. If the concealer is the color of your skin tone, it should do a great job of hiding the scab.
In those instances, Engelman recommends using a sheer pimple patch before applying any makeup. For blemishes that are more difficult to cover, I recommend using see-through pimple patches and even applying concealer over them to blend seamlessly [with] your skin/makeup, Engelman says.
Wounds need to be covered so that they can heal properly. When a wound is left uncovered, the new surface cells that are being created can easily dry out. When these important cells dry out, it tends to slow down the healing process. A wound should be covered using a clean bandage.
Keeping a scab moist with petroleum jelly and protected with a bandage may help the wound heal faster than if you leave the scab dry. Whether the scab is dry or moist, its important to make sure it doesnt peel off prematurely. A bandage can help prevent this.
