To remove the large space above footnotes in Word, we first of all go to the Home tab and in the Paragraph section we activate the formatting symbols. Because now we can see what is causing the huge empty space, its actually a bunch of empty paragraphs before the footnotes. To remove this extra space, we go to the View tab and activate the Draft view. Then we go to the References tab and click on Show Footnotes. In the bottom window, we now open the dropdown and select Footnote Separator. And as you can see here we have all these empty paragraphs, that we can simply delete. Once that is done, we go the View tab again reset the view to the standard Print layout and with that, the space above the footnotes is gone.
