Disadvantages of TIFF files. They can take up valuable space on your drive. Their size makes them difficult to share or send to contacts or clients. Their high quality makes them a poor choice for website design, since detailed images can slow a websites loading speed.
Turning off Antialiasing to Reduce TIFF Image Size Antialiasing adds extra pixels and information to create the effect of smoother lines, curves, and shapes. This adds more data to be stored, causing the file to be larger. You can turn this option off to see how much space you will save.
WHAT IS A TIFF? A TIFF (or Tagged Image File Format) is also a raster image file format, in that its composed of a grid of pixels. TIFFs are typically uncompressed files or use lossless compression. This results in very high quality images and, subsequently, very large file sizes.
Like JPEGs, TIFFs are a raster graphic file, but this format uses lossless compression to retain image data. This means that TIFF files are generally large. They tend to take up a lot of drive space and can be impossible to send via email.
TIFFs are typically uncompressed files or use lossless compression. This results in very high quality images and, subsequently, very large file sizes.
The first way to reduce TIFF file size is with color reduction. TIFF images support various color modes and bit depths. Choosing the appropriate color mode and bit depth can make a big difference in file size. TIFF images can be color, indexed color, grayscale, or monochrome (black and white).
The main difference is file compression in JPEGs, which means they are usually much smaller in size than TIFFs. This makes JPEGs a go-to option when storage space is at a premium.
Transparency. While TIFF files do support transparency, theyre incompatible with many web-based programs. Only applications that fully support TIFF files will support TIFF transparency. In some instances, you may need to edit a TIFF file to get the results you need.
