in this video tutorial I will take you step by step through creating an Amazon machine image or Ami and then how to create a new instance using it before fixing the public IP address that Amazon gives it by default and finally testing it to prove itamp;#39;s fully working so after this short introduction I will get right to it there are basically two main reasons why you want to create an instance using your own Ami the first is you want more instances based on an existing one whether it be in the current region or a new one or second you want to restore and replace the existing instance with an earlier saved version I am going to be demonstrating the second option which is to replace this existing instance with an earlier saved version from a snapshot by using an Ami as most AWS users will be faced with this problem at some point but first so you know what the final product will look like I will quickly show you around this instance and highlight a few things as we go

Log in to the AWS Management Console, display the EC2 page for your region, then click Instances. Choose the instance from which you want to create a custom AMI. Click Actions and click Create Image. Type a name for Image Name that is easily identifiable to you and, optionally, input text for Image Description.
An Amazon Machine Image (AMI) is used to create virtual servers (Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud or EC2 instances) in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment. Different types of instances can be launched from a single AMI to support the hardware of the host computer used for the instance.
To answer the original question: you cant decrypt an encrypted AMI and you cant decrypt AWS managed keys. What you can do is create a CMK (Customer Master Key), re-encrypt your image with the new key, and share it with the account(s) you wish.
How To Transfer an encrypted AMI to Another User Account Create snapshots. Create an EC2 instance from the snapshot. Use the AMI as a baseline snapshot to transfer the servers instance to another account.
Use the console to view encryption information Enter the AMI ID, and then press ENTER. Select the snapshot, and then on the Description tab, verify if Encryption is set to Encrypted or Not Encrypted. If the snapshot is encrypted, then note the KMS Key ID and KMS Key ARN. Open the AWS KMS console.
A typical example might contain an operating system, an application server and applications. Permissions are also controlled to ensure that AMI launches are restricted to the appropriate AWS accounts. block device mapping ensures that the correct volumes are attached to the launched instance.
AMIs must not contain passwords, authentication keys, key pairs, security keys, or other credentials for any reason. AMIs must not request or use access or secret keys from users to access AWS resources.
Ensure that your Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) are encrypted to fulfill compliance requirements for data-at-rest encryption. The Amazon Machine Image (AMI) data encryption and decryption is handled transparently and does not require any additional action from your applications.
