It is able to do this because a QR code is a pattern that can be easily recreated with an algorithm. At most, a QR code can be damaged by 30% and it still can be scanned properly without any error. However, this is limited to QR codes with a lower number of squares or QR code data size.
Even if part of the bar code is destroyed or obscured, it is still possible for a device to read the product ID. QR codes are designed to be scanned using a camera, such as those found on your smartphone.
You can disguise your QR code as part of an image. Since visual QR codes are customizable, you can add them to the overall picture using the same color scheme. By doing so, you will still be able to maintain the images aesthetic, and users wont notice that you hide a QR code in that image.
When a QR scanner is scanning a QR code, it actually scans these modules independently. This means that if one of the eight squares (or bytes) in the module happens to be covered up, the scanner will render the entire module as unreadable.
Image Overlays Thanks to error correction, information in QR Codes can be recovered even if part of the code is covered or unreadable. This feature allows you to use image overlays to customize the appearance of the QR code. Always test if the code reads correctly with the desired overlay.
QR code FAQs We dont foil stamp QR codes. Though our foil stamping is precise, variations in the foil could inhibit the QR code from being properly read. We always recommend printed QR codes.
Aim for a minimum size of 2 cm x 2 cm (0.8 inches x 0.8 inches) for best results. The farther away you expect users to be while scanning the code, the bigger you should make the code. As a rule of thumb, for every 10 cm of distance to the code, add an extra 1 cm to the length and width of the code.
A QR code is capable of encoding a maximum of 2953 bytes of data, 4296 alphanumeric characters, 7089 numeric characters, or 1817 Kanji characters (character set ing to JIS X 0208).
