Select the Number tab, then in the Category list, click Custom and then, in the Type box, type the number format, such as 000-00-0000 for a social security number code, or 00000 for a five-digit postal code.
From the Number tab, select Custom in the Category list and enter 00000 into the Type field.

Hiding Numbers To do this, select the cells containing the numbers you want to hide. Then, go to the Format menu and select Cells. In the Number tab, select Custom from the list of options. In the box next to Type, enter ;;; (three semicolons). This will cause all numbers in the selected cells to be hidden.
Excel provides a special number format that lets you format a number as a phone number. For example, you can format a 10-digit number, such as 5555551234, as (555) 555-1234. Select the cell or range of cells that you want to format.
You can hide rows containing information that you do not need to view or do not want to print. Select a cell within the row(s) to be hidden. On the Home command tab, in the Cells group, click Format. From the Format menu, in the Visibility section, select Hide Unhide Hide Rows.
Use the Format Cells option to convert number to text in Excel Select the range with the numeric values you want to format as text. Right click on them and pick the Format Cells option from the menu list. Tip. On the Format Cells window select Text under the Number tab and click OK.
