A masked password is an obscure string representation of a real password. To mask a password a user will use an codec. The codec takes in the real password and outputs the masked version. A user can then replace the real password in the configuration files with the new masked password.
By default, SQL Assistant always masks passwords before storing a query in History. It also masks passwords in the Query window when that query is executed. Some IT or DBA personnel prefer to save those passwords so that their queries can be re-executed without having to retype those passwords.
From the beginning, password type inputs have displayed a small dot (bullet symbol) instead of the actual characters to maintain some semblance of security. While you can alter non-password type inputs to use bullets (webkit only), changing the password type bullet is a bit more complicated.
What Are The Dots When Typing Your Password? Dot placeholders seen while typing passwords are known as masking. These dots aim to conceal the password with each typed letter. Each dot represents a character, but thats the only information revealed about the password.
Hidden access involves masking the password as a series of dots or asterisks so the password cannot be seen by the end user or anybody looking over their shoulder.
