A good concluding sentence should wrap up the paragraph and give the reader a sense of closure. Conclusion starters or transitional expressions can help signal the end of the paragraph. A concluding sentence can restate the topic sentence or recap the main points.
The Basic Rule: Keep one idea to one paragraph The basic rule of thumb with paragraphing is to keep one idea to one paragraph. If you begin to transition into a new idea, it belongs in a new paragraph.
PEEL POINT. Begin your paragraph by stating your point. EXPLANATION. Give evidence to substantiate your point. EXAMPLE or EVIDENCE. Explaining in more detail about how and why your evidence supports your point. LINK. Provide a smooth link to your next paragraph and/or point.
Step 1: Return to your thesis. To begin your conclusion, signal that the essay is coming to an end by returning to your overall argument. Step 2: Review your main points. Next, remind the reader of the main points that you used to support your argument. Step 3: Show why it matters.
A wrap-up paragraph is a concluding paragraph in an essay, article, or any written piece that summarizes the main points and reiterates the central argument or topic. Its purpose is to give closure to the piece and leave a lasting impression on the reader.
A good conclusion should do a few things: Restate your thesis. Synthesize or summarize your major points. Make the context of your argument clear.
Expand individual paragraphs Ask how and why questions. Add (more) concrete examples and evidence. Expand the introduction and/or conclusion. Add a sentence or two at the end of each paragraph summarizing (and/or refuting) the arguments presented in that paragraph.
Restate the topic sentence. Look back at your topic sentence. This is your main idea, so it needs to be reflected in the closing statement. However, you shouldnt just paraphrase what you wrote in the topic sentence. Instead, add what the reader learned about the topic in this paragraph.
