Is 300 dpi or 600 dpi better? If you have 4x6 snapshots, then 300 dpi scans are perfect for simple archiving or printing. You can still print a good-looking 7x10 enlargement. For small wallet-sized pictures, scan at 600 dpi so you can enlarge them and retain more detail.

For color text or line art, 600dpi should be used. And for color photos, we recommend scanning at 600dpi or higher. Keep in mind that the file size will increase as the resolution increases, so youll have to balance quality with file size when deciding on the best dpi for scanning documents.
Generally, 300 DPI is great for small prints, while 600 DPI is amazing for large prints. If youre scanning documents or photos to be used on the web or in emails, 300 dpi is more than enough. If you want to print large photos or blow them up to poster size, 600 dpi will give you better results.
Go to the Printer driver Printing Preferences Advanced Printer Features and then Max. Application Resolution. Choose the requested DPI settings.
If an image has a resolution of 600 DPI, the printer will produce twice the standard number of dots per inch. As the droplets of ink will be very tightly bunched together, this gives a much smoother, more detailed image which can be made larger without sacrificing quality.
600 DPI printing simply means that the printer compresses 600 dots horizontally as well as 600 dots vertically for every square inch of the card. This allows users to print ultra-high resolution pictures, micro-text, OCR codes, and 1D 2D barcodes.
