A320 Mentor Channel thanks for watching prevention of EGT over Li events a number of engine exhaust gas temperature EGT overlimit events at takeoff were reported to Airbus including dual events leading to a docHub increase in flight crew workload at low altitude this article recalls the importance of monitoring the EGT margin of each engine to detect any degradation in engine performance early and provides recommendations to maintenance flight operations and flight Crews to prevent EGT overlimit events it also reminds us of what to do in the cas of an EGT over limit indication at takeoff among the reported events of EGT over limit 10 occurred on both engines between May and September 2021 even if EGT overlimit events are common they can increase the flight crew workload in a critical phase of flight especially when they happen on both engines simultaneously they can create operational disruptions EG rejected takeoff or inflight turnback and require maintenance actions case

At Manta Performance, we recommend that your EGT stay under 550C (as measured at the turbo outlet) to assure your engines safety. What happens when your EGT gets too high? Nothing good! Certain parts of your engine can fail due to the excessive heat produced.
Keeping EGTs below 1,200 degrees is an accepted safe limit for towing. Excessively high EGTs are the result of a rich air/fuel ratio and are typically realized when engines are modified.
monitor the exhaust gas temperature, turbine inlet temperature, or interstage turbine temperature gauge during start. If any temperature exceeds its operational limit, immediately shut off fuel to the engine.
During normal operation of such vehicles, EGTs usually stay within safe limits, but situations can occur where the EGT gets too high, doing serious engine damage without any warning to the driver. A pyrometer that displays a diesels EGT can warn the driver of dangerous conditions before such damage occurs.
When dealing with a diesel vehicle, your EGT is a critical factor in its performance. Generally speaking, the lower your EGT, the better. At Manta Performance, we recommend that your EGT stay under 550C (as measured at the turbo outlet) to assure your engines safety.
The EGT redline is defined as the engine operational limit that prevents damage to the engine due to an excessively high temperature. EGT limits for each flight phase are provided in the AFM - LIMITATIONS - POWER PLANT - Engine Parameters and FCOM - Limitation - Engines - Thrust Setting/EGT Limits.
As the pilot leans from a full-rich mixture, EGT rises as the amount of fuel entering a cylinder is reduced. At some point as we lean, the fuel/air ratio is reduced so that any additional leaning sees EGT values start to drop.
An EGT over limit due to normal engine wear does not affect the engine thrust, safe continuation of the takeoff is therefore possible. Below 80 knots, an ECAM caution will trigger and the takeoff may be aborted. Above 80 knots, ECAM caution is inhibited, no crew action required.
