XML prolog has encoding attribute to specify character sets from different languages. By default it is UTF-8. Underscore is absolutely legit in XML element names. Spaces are not legit in XML element names.
The primary XML index is a shredded and persisted representation of the XML BLOBs in the xml data type column. For each XML binary large object (BLOB) in the column, the index creates several rows of data. The number of rows in the index is approximately equal to the number of nodes in the XML binary large object.
An XML element is required to have a closing tag. With XML it is illegal to omit the closing tag. An XML element can be closed in two possible ways; non-empty closed element and empty closed element.
XML Naming Rules Element names must start with a letter or underscore. Element names cannot start with the letters xml (or XML, or Xml, etc) Element names can contain letters, digits, hyphens, underscores, and periods. Element names cannot contain spaces.
The XML document uses lowercase for element names and attributes. The case option defaults to lowercase so it is not needed.
The underscore must be used for readability in naming simple elements, with no spaces or hyphens between words; lower camel case cannot be used (for example, supplierName). Lower case must be used. The simple element names must not be more than 30 characters in length.
Results indicate that camel casing leads to higher accuracy among all subjects regardless of training, and those trained in camel casing are able to recognize identifiers in the camel case style faster than identifiers in the underscore style.
The XML document uses lowercase for element names and attributes. The case option defaults to lowercase so it is not needed. The XML document uses uppercase for element names and attributes. Option case=upper must be specified.
XML tags are case sensitive. All XML elements must be properly nested. All XML documents must have a root element. Attribute values must always be quoted.
These characters can be represented using the following character substitutions: ● Ampersand () - amp; ● Less than () - gt; ● Quote () - quot; ● Apostrophe () - apos;
