Turn off Siri Suggestions for Spotlight on Mac On your Mac, choose Apple menu System Settings, then click Siri Spotlight in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.) Open Siri Spotlight settings for me. Go to Search results on the right, and in the list, deselect the Siri Suggestions checkbox.
If its enabled, heres how to turn it off and fully disable Spotlight: Reboot your Mac. Click the Apple menu and choose Restart. Get into Recovery Mode. On your Macs restart, hold down Command+R to enter Recovery Mode. Run Terminal. Disable SIP. Restart your Mac. Disable Spotlight.
Rebuild the Spotlight index Choose Apple menu  System Settings. Click Siri Spotlight in the sidebar, then scroll down and click Spotlight Privacy on the right. Drag the disk or folder that you want to index again to the list of locations that Spotlight is prevented from searching.
Open System Preferences: Click on the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your screen and choose System Preferences from the dropdown menu. Navigate to Spotlight: In the System Preferences window, click on the Spotlight icon.
You can also use keyboard shortcuts to quickly apply superscript or subscript to selected text. For superscript, press Control-Shift-Command-Plus Sign (+). For subscript, press Control-Command-Minus Sign (-).
How to disable Spotlight on Mac in multiple ways Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings. Scroll down the left sidebar to choose Keyboard. Click the Keyboard Shortcuts button and choose Spotlight on the new window. Uncheck the box of the Show Spotlight search option. Click Done.
If your Spotlight is stuck indexing your files or the process is taking up too much CPU, you can resolve that issue with a simple Terminal command. To turn off Spotlight indexing: Open Terminal. Type sudo mdutil -i off.

This indexing is necessary for Time Machine to function properly and cant be turned off. When searching, Spotlight does exclude items stored on the backup disk that arent part of a Time Machine backup.
