Immerse the disassembled tray into a freshly prepared disinfectant bath of the specified concentration for the period specified by the manufacturer. After disinfection rinse all parts thoroughly with water as specified by the disinfectant manufacturer. Move the parts back and forth.
Sodium hypochlorite disinfection is an efficient disinfection method for alginate impressions. Tap water rinsing reduces microbial load but does not eliminate the cross-infection potential of alginate.
either 0.5% NaOCl solution or 2% glutaraldehyde for 5 min. Both Epimax and 0.525% sodium hypochlorite can disinfect the alginate impression material against Candida albicans, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus.
Use the spatula to press the mixture against the inner walls of the mixing bowl to prevent the incorporation of air bubbles in the mixture. Once an even mixture has been obtained and the mixing time is over, use the spatula to place the alginate in the impression tray, before the end of the working time.
It is advised that elastomeric impression materials be disinfected by immersion in glutaraldehyde [7,11] or sodium hypochlorite.
The usage of polyether and polyvinylsiloxane impression material is advantageous in implant restorations due to its dimensional stability, non deformation and rigidity.
Closed versus open tray technique The open tray technique is specifically indicated when the implants are not sufficiently parallel to allow an impression to be withdrawn from multiple impression copings. The closed tray impression technique is utilized when the implants are sufficiently parallel to each other.
Addition or condensation silicone impressions can be disinfected with 2% glutaraldehyde or 1% sodium hypochlorite for no more than 10 minutes, ensuring the elimination of all microbial forms on the impression surfaces, without altering their dimensional stability.
