This is a Pap test. She is one of the many women in the world who gets screened for cervical cancer with the Pap test. Pap test, we need to talk. Things really havent been working out for us lately. Im breaking up with you. Wow. I wasnt expecting that I thought you relied on me to tell you, youre just fine? Look, its not you. Its about my needs its about human papillomavirus now. HPV! But, Ive been so reliable.. Actually, thats not true. Up to 1 in 3 women who were diagnosed with an invasive cervical cancer had a normal Pap test. You can miss nearly 50% of women who have cervical disease. Im shocked by these numbers! I almost feel like you cheated on me. I feel like youve misled me all this time because a normal Pap test, does not mean cancer free. I need more. Ive found something better for me. Wait cant we try to work it out? Im moving on with HPV screening to prevent cervical cancer. Please dont go Lets move on with HPV testing to help prevent cervical cancer.

What are the different types of abnormal results? Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US) Low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL) High-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) Atypical squamous cells, cannot exclude HSIL (ASC-H) Atypical glandular cells (AGC)
Typically, your doctor will use the Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP), or perform a cold knife cone biopsy as a minor surgical procedure. Be sure to always bring up any questions you may about you Pap test with your gynecologist.
Treatment for high-grade cervical cell changes Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) uses a thin wire loop, through which an electrical current is passed, to remove abnormal tissue. This procedure is typically done in a doctors office. Cold knife conization uses a scalpel to remove the abnormal tissue.
Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US): This is the most common abnormal Pap test finding. It means that some cells dont look completely normal, but its not clear if the changes are caused by HPV infection.
The chance of developing cervical cancer is unlikely. The abnormal cells will often go away on their own when your immune system gets rid of the HPV. This happens in most people. You will be invited for another cervical screening test in 12 months to check whether you still have HPV.
Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance is the most common abnormal finding in a Pap test. It may be a sign of infection with certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV) or other types of infection, such as a yeast infection.
Over a 6-month follow-up, more than 90% of patients with abnormal Pap smear turned into a normal Pap smear; and after a year, almost all patients had normal Pap smear.
Colposcopy. If you have certain symptoms that could mean cancer, if your Pap test shows abnormal cells, or if your HPV test is positive, you will most likely need to have a test called colposcopy. You will lie on the exam table as you do with a pelvic exam.
