Configuring a standard ACL involves the following: Specifying a range of IP addresses. The type of traffic to be allowed or denied. The direction of the traffic which could either be inbound or outbound.
Standard ACLs and extended ACLs are the two types of control lists used in networking. Standard ACLs have a simple configuration that only considers the destination IP address. Extended ACLs, on the other hand, are more complex and consider both the source and destination IP addresses.
ACLs created based on the established keyword are part of the Complex ACLs, in this case, this type of ACL its called TCP Established ACLs. These type of ACLs are used specifically for TCP traffic, and what they dictate is that only sessions initiated from inside your network will be allowed back.
Thats a firewall rule that allows outgoing connections. Specifically, it allows a reply to an outgoing connection, so that if you, say, request a web page, it is allowed as an incoming packet because it is part of an established connection (established by an outgoing request).
The established keyword on an ACL prevents pre-existing TCP sessions that are built across the router to be torn down when the ACL is applied to an interface.
