Make sure that you stain and clear coat your wood before engraving.
I usually spray the wood with lacquer. You can leave it natural, but most woods will turn gray as they age. There are also products like Watco oil or you could even use mineral oil that you wipe on and wipe off, and it soaks into the wood without drying.
Wide Blue Painters Tape, 6 inch x 60 yds, Made in America, Great Masking Tape for 3D Printing and Laser Cutting, Removes Cleanly for 21 Days.
In case of hard metals, any mistake leaves irreversible effects. In soft metals like gold, any erroneous engraving can be corrected by suitable polishing. Any engraving related mistake in case of metal plating or rough surface may not be useful.
Sealing wood before laser engraving is an important step to enhance the quality and durability of the final product. Sealing helps to protect the wood from burn marks and resin seepage, ensuring a cleaner and more professional finish.
Depth varies, with some engravings easily modified or removed by sanding or additional laser treatments. Chemical Etching: Applies corrosive substances to etch designs into the metal. Results in detailed, shallow designs that can be removed more easily by polishing or light abrasion.
It is true that you can sometimes buff out an engraving that isnt very deep and potentially engrave the item again, even over the same place. Unfortunately, plated metal doesnt work like this at all youll just buff the plating off and reveal the metal underneath the plating, essentially destroying the item.
Just apply a layer of transfer tape to the plywood or MDF before cutting. A medium tack paper tape like MAIN PerfecTear Plus would be a good choice. If youre using a 30 watt laser like the Pinnacle MIII, start with settings of 2% speed and 100% power at 500 DPI and 400PPI. Adjust as necessary.
