Muscle mass and strength increases. Some of the physical changes caused by masculinizing hormone therapy can be reversed if you stop taking testosterone. Others, such as a deeper voice, a larger clitoris, scalp hair loss, and more body and facial hair, cannot be reversed.
Can the changes from HRT be reversed? Some changes from HRT are reversible, but some are not. Voice deepening, facial hair growth, body hair growth, clitoral growth, and pattern baldness are all permanent results of testosterone-based HRT.
Some of the effects of hormone therapy are reversible, if you stop taking them. The degree to which they can be reversed depends on how long you have been taking testosterone. Clitoral growth, facial hair growth, voice changes and male-pattern baldness are not reversible.
There are some aspects of the body that testosterone will not change: Breasts may appear slightly smaller due to fat loss, but will not substantially shrink. Although voice pitch will likely drop, other aspects of speech will not become more masculine.
During the visits, people will receive testosterone via an injection, patch, gel, or pill. After starting the medication, physical changes may begin within a few weeks. Others may not appear for a few months, while some may take a few years for maximum effect.
One known risk is that testosterone can make your blood become too thick, otherwise known as a high hematocrit count, which can cause a stroke, heart attack or other conditions. This can be a particular problem if you are taking a dose that is too high for your bodys metabolism.
Typical Changes While Taking Testosterone The reversible changes that regress once youve stopped taking T are: Muscle-fat redistribution (mostly around the hips, thighs and stomach), coarser skin, body odor, acne, oily and thicker skin.
Any time your hormone balances shift, you should expect side effects to present themselves. Because testosterone is such a powerful hormone, ending treatment can adversely affect patients. Weight gain, muscle loss, headaches, and loss of sex drive are all potential outcomes.
