foreign 64 encoding is a process of converting binary data into a limited character set such as A to Z A to Z 0 to 9 and or a few other characters that can be represented in a plain text format this is useful when binary data needs to be stored or transferred as text such as in email attachments or Json data there are many advantages of using base64 encoding it is widely supported base64 encoding is a widely used standard and is supported by many programming languages libraries and Frameworks it is easy to implement encoding and decoding data in base64 is relatively simple and can be done with minimal code it allows for safe data transfer since base64 encoding can only represent a limited character set it can help protect against certain types of data injection attacks such as those that involve binary data it allows storing binary data in a text format many systems and applications are only capable of handling Text data so base64 encoding is a way to store binary data in a tex

What is Radix 64 Encoding? Radix 64 encoding allows binary data stored in octets (i.e. bytes) to be expressed as printable characters.
Base64 strings tend to end in one or two equal signs, but not always! These strings are not exact representations of the binary data in ASCII, because padding is applied to ensure the string length is a multiple of 4 characters. Each equal sign represents two bits of zero-padding. Ok, so why the padding?
Fundamentally, Base64 is used to encode binary data as printable text. This allows you to transport binary over protocols or mediums that cannot handle binary data formats and require simple text. [ Download now: A sysadmins guide to Bash scripting. ] Base64 uses 6-bit characters grouped into 24-bit sequences.
The main theory is that base64 causes a memory overhead of 33% (or 37% or whatever). But it seems to be correct only for an 8-bit scenario. Because, as I previously explained, base64 converts every 6-bit chunk of original data into a single ASCII character.
Base64 is the most common form of obfuscation across our detection data.
Compressed base64 string will roughly match the size of non-encoded data. How about after we turn it into base64? We see 33% increase in size, which is exactly what weve expected (base64 turns 3 bytes into 4, which gives 33% overhead).
Base64 encoding causes an overhead of 3337% relative to the size of the original binary data (33% by the encoding itself; up to 4% more by the inserted line breaks).
The Base64 size is 4/3 times larger than the original size, as expected. Its slightly larger for smaller sizes due to the padding overhead. The compressed size is actually larger than the Base64 size for smaller inputs.
