In the Format Cells box, under Effects, click Strikethrough. Save the workbook and reopen it in Excel for the web to see the changes.
Press Ctrl + 1 or right-click the selected cell(s) and choose Format Cells from the context menu. In the Format Cells dialog box, go to the Font tab, and tick off the Strikethrough option under Effects. Click OK to save the change and close the dialog.
Go to the Insert tab Symbols group, and click Symbol. In the Symbol dialog box, on the Symbols tab, click the drop-down arrow next to the Font box, and select Wingdings. A couple of checkmark and cross symbols can be found at the bottom of the list. Select the symbol of your choosing, and click Insert.
