Although Steinbecks insistent repetition of these characteristics makes Lennie a rather flat character, Lennies simplicity is central to Steinbecks conception of the novella.
George and Lennie are foil characters because they are pretty much complete opposites. small, intelligent, short-tempered but a loving and devoted friend, complains that taking care of Lennie makes his life much harder, terse and impatient at times, but he never strays from his primary purpose of protecting Lennie.
As Of Mice and Men ends, we see Lennie hiding at the Salinas River. While he waits for George to show up, he has visions of his Aunt Clara and of a giant, anthropomorphic rabbit.
Lennie, Curleys Wife and crooks are discriminated because of their brain, gender and color.
George and Lennie are foils to each other in John Steinbecks 1937 novella Of Mice and Men. Lennie is huge and strong as a bull but mentally slow, while George is small, skinny and very smart. In Frank Herberts 1965 science fiction novel Dune, Feyd-Rautha serves as the narrative foil to Paul Atreides.
Given Curleys temperament, he serves as a natural foila character whose emotions or actions contrast with those of other charactersfor both the gentle Lennie and the self-assured Slim.
Of Mice and Men Characters. The protagonists of the story are the foils Lennie and George, Lennie being physically massive yet mentally weak, while George is mentally strong yet physically small.
