To insert an ASCII character, press and hold down ALT while typing the character code. For example, to insert the degree () symbol, press and hold down ALT while typing 0176 on the numeric keypad.
ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) is the most common character encoding format for text data in computers and on the internet. In standard ASCII-encoded data, there are unique values for 128 alphabetic, numeric or special additional characters and control codes.
The ALT key does not have an ASCII value: it is a modifier key and doesnt not affect ASCII values.
In the Windows-1252 character set, ASCII code 219 is represented by the character also known as the latin capital letter u with circumflex.
In the old days, holding down the Ctrl key electrically zeroed the left 2 bits of the 7 bit ASCII code, allowing one to enter the first 32 characters of the ASCII code, irrespective of the shift key. These non-printing characters were used primarily for device/printer control.
We present a special symbol, Alt-255, which we named The Hidden Dragon for its Invisible, Text Hiding and Text Aligning Guardian character.
The original 7-bit version of ASCII has unique values for 128 characters. These characters include uppercase letters A through Z, their lowercase versions, the numbers 0 through 9, and basic punctuation.
