How to take care of your Autographs and Memorabilia Frame it or Case it. Keep it High. Avoid Sunshine and UV rays. Avoid Over-Handling.
If you can, get the person signing your garment to use a permanent ink marker or a pen used to label laundry as they have been specially formulated to remain on fabric. Sports fans often get their heroes to sign items such as baseballs or footballs.
Combining UV-protective glass with a UV-protective spray is an even better way of keeping your autographs looking fresh.
The solution is to invest in a UV protective display case, which will mitigate any solar radiation. Its worth spending a little extra money to protect an autograph that could be worth thousands in years to come.
You must leave your designs for a few hours and dry the Sharpie. You may now seal the Sharpie markers using the mod podge. Use the mod podge with spray to make it easy to seal the markers. Simply, spray the mod podge over the Sharpie markers on plastic and wait for them to dry.
Using shellac or other varnishes is most common among baseball collectors, who feel the need for extra protection as the autograph theyve acquired is often written on a shiny surface, such as the side of a bat.
Its a good idea to seal in your signature with a clear finish, but be careful: permanent marker will actually bleed and smear under oil-based varnish, shellac or lacquer because of their solvents. Instead, use water-based polyurethane. It wont affect the marker at all.
If you have an autograph that you want to preserve, keep the hat in a dark, air conditioned space to prevent fading and mold or mildew from forming. If you want to wear the autographed hat, protect the signature by covering the signed area with a white, pressing cloth and iron the area on high heat.
