FERPA requires that education records be kept confidential. Records may be disclosed with the consent of the student, if the disclosure meets one of the statutory exemptions, or if the disclosure is directory information and the student has not placed a hold on release of directory information.
Address the Cover Letter with Dear Hiring Manager It is the most common way to address a hiring manager with no name and hiring managers prefer this salutation over no salutation at all.
Open your cover letter with a formal greeting such as Dear. Follow it with Mr. or Ms. and the last name of the admissions officer and a comma. For example, Dear Mr. Morrison, followed by a comma.
Directory information can include the students name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, honors and awards, and dates of attendance. Only schools or districts may disclose directory information but only after parents/guardians are notified and given an opportunity to refuse such disclosure.
Address the cover letter to the hiring manager. If you cant find their name, then address them as Hiring Manager, by their title or address the department.
When you dont know how to address the hiring manager by name, use Dear Hiring Manager. I would avoid Sir/Madam because you dont know the hiring managers pronouns. Usually, the team doesnt read the cover letter. Its addressed to the hiring manager or recruiter based on the situation.
Address your cover letter to the right leader in the school district. This may be the superintendent, assistant superintendent, hiring manager, or the head of HR. Again, read the job description to determine to whom you should be addressing your letter.
