A Standard Access Control List (ACL) is a type of ACL used in networking to filter traffic based on the source IP address of the traffic. A Standard ACL only examines the source IP address of the traffic and does not take into account other parameters such as destination IP address, protocol, or port numbers.
To filter traffic, a network ACL uses rules that have been predefined by an administrator or the manufacturer. These rules check the contents of packets against tables that govern access parameters. Based on whether the user checks out, their access is either granted or denied. Applying an ACL in NAT Through network address translation (NAT), external users can access the intranet. To ensure intranet security, you can configure ACL rules and apply them to the enterprise router so that only specific external users can access the intranet.
Standard ACLs: These ACLs permit or deny packets based only on the source IPv4 address. Extended ACLs: These ACLs permit or deny packets based on the source IPv4 address and destination IPv4 address, protocol type, source and destination TCP or UDP ports, and more. If you want to specify multiple IP addresses or CIDR ranges within the same VCN, do not create multiple ACL entries. Use one ACL entry with the values for the multiple IP addresses or CIDR ranges separated by commas. Click Add access control rule to add a new value to the access control list.
An IP ACL (Access Control List) is a list of IP ranges that are either Allowed or Blocked. Along with one entry that defines a start IP address of * (wild) that defines the default behavior when an IP address does not match any other range in the list.
You can create ACLs based on MAC addresses to deny network traffic from a specific source. MAC addresses are Layer 2 protocols and most often assigned by the hardware manufacturer.
