There are three different methods that were used in typesetting before the digital ages; these methods include; manual typesetting, hot metal typesetting, and photo typesetting.
Typesetting is the way that text is composed using individual types the symbols, letters, and glyphs in digital systems. Its a crucial part of the world of design that requires an understanding of fonts, corresponding font sizes, and line spacing.
In general, you should only use a maximum of three fonts per design: the title, the subhead, and the body of the text. You get an exception if your design text is long. In this case, you can choose one or two more fonts.
In typography, a continuous line used for alignment, separation of page elements, or underlining. A rule is actually an em dash, repeated to form a line. Not all dashes can form solid lines when repeated (e.g., hyphens).
In traditional printing terminology, a rule is a line; a border is a box. But in word processors and web browsers, theyre variations of the same function. Rules and borders can be applied to pages, paragraphs, or tables. Like centered text, bold or italic, and all caps, rules and borders are best used sparingly.
The good news is, there are eight basic, universal typographical design elements: typeface, hierarchy, contrast, consistency, alignment, white space, and color. Even a basic understanding of each of these elements can revolutionize any design project.
