If you notice an error on your title, you can visit a motor vehicle agency or submit a written request through the mail to request a correction. If you visit a motor vehicle agency: You must provide proof that a correction is needed. There is no charge to correct a title if the error was clearly caused by the MVC.
A Statement of Error or Erasure (REG 101) form is required for any erasure and/or lined out information on the California Certificate of Title. For example, if an individuals signature appears on the title in error and is lined out, a REG 101 must be completed by that individual explaining the error.
If the title is incorrect, contact the DMV Call Center and ask about obtaining an amended title. If both the registration and title are incorrect, bring them to a motor vehicle office.
Texas Title Correction Process Complete Texas Application for Title Correction (Form VTR-276). Submit the application, supporting documents, and required fees (around $25) by mail to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV). TxDMV will review the application and either approve or deny the correction.
Title Correction If the department issued the title based on the information contained in the title application, you or your lienholder (if applicable) will need to submit a new application and fee to your county tax office to correct the error.
The owner of a vehicle is typically required to file an affidavit of correction title if there is a discrepancy between the information on the title and the actual information about the vehicle, such as a misspelled name, an incorrect VIN number, or incorrect information about the vehicles make, model, or year.
In some states, a corrected title will be issued for removing or adding an owners name due to divorce, death or marriage. In other states, details about the vehicle, such as incorrect odometer readings, can result in a corrected title being issued.
Instead, bring your title to the DMV to start to receive a corrected car title. There is still a chance that the title is accepted if you explain the situation. If you try to cross out your mistake or use whiteout, they will not accept it.
