For certain types of works, theyre used to set apart titles. The general rule is to use quotation marks for titles of short works such as articles, poems, songs, essays, or short stories. By contrast, use italics for larger works such as books, movies, and the names of periodicals.
Use double quotation marks around the title of an article or chapter, and italicize the title of a periodical, book, brochure, or report. Examples: From the book Study Guide (2000) or (Reading, 1999).

Titles of movies, television, and radio shows are italicized. A single episode is enclosed in quotation marks.
