ANNOUNCER: What is a ranked ballot? As the name suggests, ranked-ballot voting allows voters to choose their candidates in order of which one they like best. Either first, second, or third. Its an alternative to the traditional first-past-the-post system used at every level of government in Canada. When the votes are counted, if one candidate receives more than 50 percent of first-choice votes, they win. If no candidate meets that threshold, the person with the least number of first-choice votes is eliminated. Then, the second choices marked on the eliminated candidates ballot are redistributed to the remaining two candidates.
