My teenage daughter recently went out to dinner before a school dance and she wanted to pay with her own debit card. And I realized she had no idea how the process worked. I know not everyone has someone to explain these things to them, so in this video I want to help you understand how do you pay a restaurant bill with a card. And just to be clear, this is how the process usually works in the United States. In other countries, things are done a little bit differently. When youre done eating your meal, usually the server is going to come and ask if you want anything else. They might say, Can I get you anything else tonight? You want another drink or dessert? Nothing else for us. Well take our bill, thanks. After you tell them youre finished, theyre going to bring you your bill. If your server hasnt brought your bill and you need to go, you can catch their attention and say something like, Oh excuse me. Can we get our bill? If you want to split the

You can choose to always require receipt signatures, never require receipt signatures or only require receipt signatures for transactions over $25.
Both parties should sign the document (or alternatively, neither should sign). By having each party sign an invoice or sales receipt, the document is formalized.
Both parties should sign the document (or alternatively, neither should sign). By having each party sign an invoice or sales receipt, the document is formalized. Just remember, the signatures dont necessarily make the transaction any more legally-binding than the invoice itself.
For decades, credit card companies relied on receipt signatures to prevent fraud. They required merchants to collect and store customer signatures so that if a transaction was disputed, the merchant could produce a signed receipt proving the customer was physically in the store and personally approved the purchase.
As already said, the charge would likely be run. Not signing (as in refusing to sign your exit interview documents) might actually backfire in a dispute. If the establishment can reasonably show that you were there or convince the card carrier of that, they may view any subsequent dispute as suspicions.
Let them know that you forgot to sign the credit card receipt and that you would like to rectify the situation. Ask them if it would be possible for them to provide you with a new receipt that you can sign. Most restaurants will understand that mistakes happen and will be willing to assist you in resolving the issue.
As technology makes paper receipts increasingly obsolete, consider that this is less of an issue nowadays. Perry said that whether or not you sign the merchant copy is largely a moot point because of digital payments like Toast; however, its totally fine to sign the customer copy. Nothing will happen.
If a signature line appears on the Cardholder copy of a receipt, you (the merchant) must sign the receipt. The merchants signature may sometimes be required on a Cardholder copy (for Refund and Purchase Correction transactions for some card programs).
