Start off your first paragraph with the city you're in, the date, and some sort of attention-grabbing first line, also known as the "grabber". The release should be written as you'd like to see it appear in print. Make the journalist's job as easy as possible, providing clearly the who, what, when, where, why, and how. They're very busy. They'll appreciate it. If there's a quote you can use, include it in the press release. This is a great way to add a personal touch and make the story come to life.
