A pledge and security agreement is a legal document that outlines an arrangement in which one party (the pledgor) unconditionally transfers the title to a specific property or asset to another person or entity (the pledgee), who accepts it for safekeeping, usually in return for some form of compensation.
A pledge is perfected when the entity granting the pledge is dispossessed of the inventory and the inventory is delivered to you or your agent. Many lenders appoint collateral managers or stock monitoring companies as custodians to hold the inventory on their behalf.

Measurement: Pledges should be recorded at their fair value, which is generally the amount promised by the donor. If the pledge is due to be received in more than one year, the net present value of the future cash flows should be calculated, considering the time value of money.
The right of pledge is a right held by an obligee to obtain satisfaction of his credit out of the value of the personal property or property right of which he has received possession from the obligor or a third party as security for such credit in preference to other obligees. .
Current assets are those available as cash or equivalent within one year. Longer-term assets are those to be used or that are receivable over one year such as multi-year pledges, long-term investments, and fixed assets.
Determining What Pledges Should be Recorded Written pledges must include the amount of the pledge, a defined payment schedule or due date, a designation if applicable, and signature of the donor. E-mail correspondence will be considered as meeting the signature requirement.
