one of the uses of a depth map for this overlay is that we can correct signal from the substrate so lets return to the processed images from which I can generate a set of spectra Ill bring up the image processing again and generate the spectra from these so these represent all of the spectra which include oxygen carbon and silicon so lets just use the element library to assist in creating regions for these so Ive got the quantification parameters dialog window up with the regions property page and topmost Ive got zoom and line selected and crepe and line selected ticked so when I select a line such as the oxygen we get a zoom into the oxygen peak I just have to make a minor adjustment and you can see the rest is sensitivity factors come in from the element library and then I can zoom out again and do the same again for the carbon again we can it make it a minor adjustment and zoom out and do the same for this silicon thats looking to P so now Ive got a region defined on each on

In general, detection limits for XPS range from 0.1 to 1 atomic percent. However there are cases where limits could be much better or much worse.
Definition of Satellite Peak: The term Satellite Peak is used to identify Plasmons, Shake-ups, Energy Loss, and various Un-identified Peaks.
Hydrogen has no core electrons and, therefore, coreelectron XPS is impossible. The H 1s electrons are valence electrons and as such participate in chemical bonding. Any signal from hydrogen would overlap with signals from excitation of valence electrons from other surface atoms.
An accuracy of 10% is typically quoted for routinely performed XPS atomic concentrations. For specific carefully performed and characterised measurements better accuracy is possible, but for quantification based on standard relative sensitivity factors, precision is achieved not accuracy.
The most prevalent electron spectrometer for XPS is the hemispherical electron analyzer. They have high energy resolution and spatial selection of the emitted electrons.
Quantitative XPS is the process of comparing two or more intensities in XPS spectra to determine the amount of material at the surface of a sample. These intensities may be from the same peak or different peaks in the same spectrum or the same set of peaks in different spectra.
XPS can measure elemental composition as well as the chemical and electronic state of the atoms within a material. XPS spectra are obtained by irradiating a solid surface with a beam of X-rays and measuring the kinetic energy of electrons that are emitted from the top 1-10 nm of the material.
It is a quantitative spectroscopic technique which utilises core level shift to obtain information on the chemical and electronic state of a samples elemental components to a penetration depth of ~ 10-100 .
How to interpret the data it generates Peaks from the XPS spectra give relative number of electrons with a specific binding energy. The shorter the peak, the less electrons represented. The greater the binding energy, the greater the attraction of that electron to the nucleus.
The most prevalent electron spectrometer for XPS is the hemispherical electron analyzer. They have high energy resolution and spatial selection of the emitted electrons.
