An XML document consists of three parts, in the order given: An XML declaration (which is technically optional, but recommended in most normal cases) A document type declaration that refers to a DTD (which is optional, but required if you want validation) A body or document instance (which is required)
XML elements must follow these naming rules: Names can contain letters, numbers, and other characters. Names cannot start with a number or punctuation character. Names cannot start with the letters xml (or XML, or Xml, etc) Names cannot contain spaces Any name can be used, no words are reserved.
You must follow these rules when you create XML syntax: All XML elements must have a closing tag. XML tags are case sensitive. All XML elements must be properly nested.
An XML declaration should abide with the following rules: If the XML declaration is present in the XML, it must be placed as the first line in the XML document. If the XML declaration is included, it must contain version number attribute. The Parameter names and values are case-sensitive.
