Whos this nerd? This is Angela Guido, the founder of Career Protocol, its MBA Monday, and today Im talking about Tricky recommender situations. We talk a lot about recommendations on a Monday because theyre an incredibly important part of your application, but theyre also the part thats hardest to manage and control because your destiny is in the hands of other people. So if you havent already watched last seasons videos, I recommend you go back and watch how to choose the best recommenders, how your recommenders can address the strengths question and how they can address the question about feedback. Like I said, we talk a lot about this subject. So theres a lot of great content on MBA Monday about recommenders. But today Im going to talk about those marginal, strange situations where you dont have great options to recommend you because of the setup of your career. So the most common situations I see with my clients are if you work in a family business, its a little bit har

The format typically consists of 1) the letterhead and full contact information, 2) a salutation, 3) an introduction, 4) an overview, 5) a personal story, 6) a closing sentence and 7) your signature. The three types of recommendation letters are employment, academic, and character recommendation letters.
Text Formatting and Paragraph Length The convention is to single-space your type, skip lines between each paragraph, and either consistently choose no indentation for paragraphs or indent each paragraph one-half inch. Preferably, keep your paragraphs reasonably short to enhance readability.
The closing of the letter should briefly summarize previous points and clearly state that you recommend the candidate for the position, graduate program or opportunity they are seeking. The recommendation letter should be written in language that is straightforward and to the point.
The second paragraph of the reference letter contains specific information on the person you are writing about, including why they are qualified, what they can contribute, and why you are providing a reference letter. If necessary, use more than one paragraph to provide details.
Format: A letter of recommendation should be single-spaced with a space between each paragraph. Use about 1 margins for the top, bottom, left, and right of the page, and align your text to the left (the alignment for most documents). Font: Use a traditional font such as Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri.
The parts of the letter include: Introduction and statement of recommendation. List of specific reasons you are recommending them to the position. Personal story with evidence of their qualities (soft and hard skills) Closing statement with contact information. Signature.
Basic Rules for Most Sources. All lines after the first line of each entry in your reference list should be indented one-half inch from the left margin. This is called hanging indentation.

Use about 1 margins for the top, bottom, left, and right of the page, and align your text to the left (the alignment for most documents).
